The Importance of Good Photography in a Brand

One key element in building a desirable brand that people often overlook is the importance of great photography. Just like a standout logo, captivating color palette, strong messaging, and superior products or services, great photography is a valuable piece of the business puzzle.

There are three main areas where great photography plays a vital role in the brands we build: website design, brand collateral design, and social media management.

We believe in trust and transparency, which is why we don’t keep secrets. If you're going to spend $5,000-$10,000 on a website, why fill it with stock photography that doesn't showcase your products or services, appears generic, and—let's be honest—looks fake? Your above-the-fold image (the first thing you see when landing on a website) should be a personal and custom photo or video of your actual business, not a stock photo of models pretending to do what you do. Used effectively, custom photography on your website will build trust much faster than stock photos. For e-commerce brands, it can drive sales much more quickly. It's invaluable to have lifestyle images that epitomize your target audience's ideal life using your products. These images are influential and tell the story of the life your audience wants to buy.

Another place where custom photography is essential is in brand collateral design. Brand collateral includes business cards, brochures, flyers, posters, print or digital ads, and more. For many of the same reasons you would want custom photography on a website, you should use it in brand collateral design. When advertising, there are three key elements to a post: a headline, a call to action, and a photo. You're attempting to capture and convert your audience in a short amount of time, so focus your attention and investment on these three details. Invest in good copywriting, good branding, and good photography. This is why we believe that good marketing really comes down to good branding.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly because of its visibility, great photography is needed on social media. We are in an era where social media is a big part of marketing and business growth, whether you like it or not. So why skimp on a custom photoshoot when you can get invaluable photos for less than $1,000? A custom photoshoot is crucial when you are attempting to establish authority in the pre-engagement stage of a user’s journey. Are you creating a strong impression in your social real estate? You need to be intentional about the image you project. Ensure the image created by your online brand is congruent with what people have said about your brand.
